Helping Crossroads Care Coventry & Warwickshire

Crossroads Care Coventry & Warwickshire relies on donations and support from trusts, organisations and individuals to continue providing our home care services, many of which are free to home carers. Donations also help us to pilot new services that home carers and those people we support with care needs tell us they need. If you want to donate to us or undertake a fundraising activity to help us in our work then please contact your nearest office and we will do everything we can to support you.

Why your support is vital to Home Carers

Everyday 5,500 people take on caring responsibilities and each year 2 million people become an unpaid home carer. There are currently 6 million home carers in the UK, 1.2 million of who are caring for more than fifty hours a week and it is estimated that they save the government £87 billion each year by providing the support they do.

To provide home care services to an increasing number of carers with an ageing population and changes in medical practice, the number of home carers is set to increase to an estimated 13 million in the next ten years. The demand for our homecare services will only rise, so it is therefore vital that we find ways of expanding services whilst maintaining the high standards we set ourselves.

Financial difficulties for Home Carers

We know from working with carers that caring can create a vicious circle of financial problems which all impact on each other. Being demoted at work or, worse still, losing a job or having to reduce working hours can lead to financial difficulties.

These may be further exasperated by the loss of income from the person they care for, who may have previously been in paid employment. All of this can, in the worst case scenario, lead to losing a home which in turn can lead to high levels of anxiety, stress, depression and feelings of despair for the home carer and for the person they care for.

How Crossroads does its bit to help Home Carers

Our own members of staff are truly committed to their work and in the last year or so our Care Support Workers have organised events to raise money to directly benefit our home care services users. These events have included a sponsored cycle ride around Rugby, a football tournament in Coventry, a gala ball to celebrate 35 years at Rugby Crossroads and a risqué calendar of Rugby staff "At the Musicals" based on the original Calendar Girls' creative fund raising idea.  Altogether this has raised a figure approaching £20,000!

How you can do your bit to help Home Carers

There are many ways in which you can help, from organising a local fund raising activity, to being sponsored to run a marathon or parachute jump, or simply by making a much-need financial donation. The ideas for raising money for our home care services charity are endless and our caring members of staff, at any one of our three local offices, are here - ready, willing and able to help you get your ideas off the ground, so please contact us to learn more.
